I'm having a great time collaborating on a new project with some actor and writer friends of mine. We started out doing very loose improvisations to develop relationships between the actors, and now our writer and director team are taking those ideas and beginning to develop character and story out of them. The goal is to turn it all into a feature in the not-too-distant future, but I'm really enjoying the unorthodox development process in the meantime. It's very Cassavetes, and that's a good thing. The project is tentatively titled "Dirty" (which I hope they change for purely selfish reasons - I did another movie once of the same name). This one will probably be incubating for a while, but I'll be sure to post updates as they come.

This weekend we finished up some re-shoots on the horror movie I did earlier in the year, Delivery. It's sort of a high-concept premise, so the less I say about it the better, but I'm pretty excited to see how it turns out. Info as they dole it out here: Delivery Movie

Just had a dynamite headshot session with Ingrid Franz Moriarty yesterday. I'll get some pictures up soon. I can't recommend her highly enough. Here's a link to her site: IFM Photo

I had a great time working with the good folks at the Theatre at Boston Court. You can't ask for a better group of people, a better venue, or better audiences. Here's to getting it right. Thanks, guys.

I cut together a new reel incorporating some new scenes. I'm pretty proud of it. Click on that little link up to check it out!

I just had the opportunity to view a cut of a film I did way back called Travelling Salesman. It'd been so long since I worked on it that I got to be pleasantly surprised by all the twists and turns and little moments in the story. The movie's about a group of mathematicians who solve the biggest computer science problem that exists (p=np - it's real, look it up!), and then they have to watch as their work gets co-opted for evil and paves the way for all sorts of global destruction. There's a lot of jargon and heady math-speak in the movie, but I was amazed at the final product I saw. Every once in a while you work on a project that is a reminder to all of us actors how much making a movie is a collaborative effort. The editing, the cinematography, the scoring - all those details can make us look so good or so bad. And this time - it's all good... a very nice feeling. :) Can't wait to get this movie out there for people to see. Stay tuned.

Just finished up a 4-week Commercial acting class with Killian McHugh. I cannot recommend it enough to all my actor friends who are interested in doing commercial work in this town! Commercials really have very little to do with all the other acting we are trained to do, and I learned so much about what casting directors are looking for when you walk into that room. Sometimes it's a matter of little adjustments compared to theatrical auditions, and sometimes it's really big (and often counterintuitive) differences that you wouldn't think about. Anyway, I feel like my commercial chops are laser-tuned at this point!

Mammoth was an adventure, to say the least! We got over six feet of snow in 3 days, no joke. But we had a great time and have some good snow stories to tell. Thankfully there was no time to ski, so I wasn't able to injure myself by attempting it. Things are going to slow down here in L.A. until the new year, so Happy Holidays to all, and I'll see you in 2011!

November 29, 2010

I will be traveling to Mammoth, California in a couple weeks for a short run of the play "The Christmas Detector." Details to follow. It will be my first time up there. All I can say is: SNOW!
Update: Performances will be at the Mammoth Lakes Performing Arts Center. Friday, 12/17 at 6:00pm and 8:00pm. Saturday, 12/18 at 2:00pm.

Last night I took part in a staged reading of Sheldon Bull's new play Gun Show. Sheldon is a great, Emmy-nominated writer with a long history in TV comedy, though with this play he covers some pretty dark and disturbing territory. It was a reading for ALAP (the Alliance of Los Angeles Playwrights), and both the play and the performances were very well received! I was honored to be a part of it.

I will be performing in an improv show at Upright Citizens Brigade this Saturday the 6th at the UCB Theatre (5919 Franklin Ave., Hollywood). 1pm. Come see!

Good news! Grand Finale was voted the best play at the Writer Speaks festival. That means we'll be reviving it sometime soon. I will post the details of the encore performances. And thanks to all who came out and voted!

We had a great opening last night at the Writer Speaks festival! The Crown City theatre is a nice venue with a wide stage yet at the same time intimate seating. The crowd was enthusiastic and seemed pleased with the work. Just a few more shows remaining!

October 8, 2010

I will be appearing in two one acts at the "Writer Speaks 2010" festival. New plays by published playwrights! The festival will have a very short run - the show dates are Oct. 18, 19, 20, and 25th. Tickets can be purchased online here! Scroll to the bottom for the paypal links.
